Water & Energy Field Services keeps Nottinghamshire warm

Posted by Water & Energy Field Services on 15/0210 at 07:36 PM

Water & Energy Field Services have completed the installation of a bivalent heating system for a client in North Nottinghamshire. The ground array, designed to support a peak load of 17kW, comprised 3 x 90m boreholes drilled through the Mercia Mudstone Formation.

The boreholes were drilled using a small track mounted rig to minimise disturbance. The header pipe was trenched back to the plant room under the patio.

A Vaillant Geotherm heat pump was selected for the project and linked to a 500 litre buffer tank. The heat pump was integrated with the oil boiler and the bivalent system linked to the existing standard sized radiators

The system has been designed to use the existing oil boiler as the emergency back up and will engage if the heat pump can no longer maintain the desired internal temperature (20 - 21°C) i.e. it can no longer keep up with the heat loss from the building. However, the system has performed as expected with no input from the oil boiler even during the recent cold spell when the temperature outside reached minus 10°C !

Water & Energy Field Services continue to monitor the system remotely, with early data suggesting an efficency (COP) of between 3.5 to 3.9.

The client , Mr Wilkinson, said, “after 6 months of operation, through the coldest winter in 40 years, the system provided the warmth we needed when we needed it”.
